Overview / Context
Bitstamp is one of the world’s longest-standing crypto exchanges, serving over 5 million users globally.
Over the past three years, I led the end-to-end design of all Bitstamp mobile apps, from the beginner-friendly Basic app (launched in 2023) to the advanced Pro app redesign (2024), and finally, to the unified mobile experience that merged both into one cohesive app in 2025.
As the sole designer dedicated to mobile, I worked closely with six developers (three iOS, three Android) and a product manager to deliver a consistent, high-quality experience across platforms.
Problem & Objectives
The original mobile experience had grown fragmented over time. Advanced traders wanted faster access to pro-level tools, while beginners found the interface intimidating and difficult to navigate. Maintaining two separate apps also increased development overhead and introduced UX inconsistencies.
Our goals were clear:
Research & Insights
To deeply understand both audiences, we conducted competitor analysis, user interviews, and usability testing with existing Bitstamp users and potential newcomers.
Key insights included:
These findings helped define the final product vision — two tailored experiences built on one shared design system and architecture.
Design Process & Collaboration
I led the full design lifecycle, from discovery workshops to final developer handoffs:
Throughout the process, I collaborated daily with developers via Jira, ensuring design intent was preserved in implementation.I also introduced design tokens and component guidelines as part of the Bitstamp Design System, which became the backbone of all mobile products.
Solution
The design evolution spanned three major milestones:
By grounding all mobile products in the Bitstamp Design System, we achieved a consistent brand language and visual harmony across web and mobile platforms.
